Summer is now over and the drought of video games before autumn has almost ended, but what have the 1001-Up.com team been up to over the last month? We’ve seen some fresh content in our new Tabletop-Up section along with plenty of reviews. Read on for more info in our next monthly update from the team.
We’ll start off as we normally do by saying a massive thank you to everyone out there that has ever heard of, looked at or followed our little site. We appreciate your support more than you know: we’ve now managed to hit views from 162 countries across the world and 880 subscribers, and we love every single one of you. We’d usually ask you to take a look at our Big-Up page to make sure we’ve you on there but you may have noticed that it’s undergoing some maintenance! Progress is coming along nicely but check back shortly and we promise it will be all new and shiny.
Last month we welcomed the fabulous Joel from Quotes from the Tabletop to the team followed shortly by his first post on the subject of the nerd stereotype and we’re really excited to have him on the team. He then continued with an article on bending alignments in tabletop RPGs, his first in our new Tabletop-Up section. Please join us in welcoming him to the team before reading some of his awesome content.

Joel has also been busy constructing our own Keep on them Borderlands RPG which we’ve played one session of so far and loved it. The role-playing newbies in the team were well looked after and will no doubt quickly become experts with help from the more experienced members.
Our monthly series of articles continued with our picks of the most disappointing video games and you may be surprised by some of our choices. We’ve also begun our next series covering games that we find pleasantly surprising so be sure to look out for the remaining articles from each team member over the coming month. Finally we also recorded our latest podcast in the form of gratification in gaming, also known as ‘the big dirty secrets episode’ which centered on the suggestion that Kim Kardashian: Hollywood could teach us how to live our lives if we want to become famous.

Offline and out in the real world Kim and Phil visited the The Heart of Gaming: an arcade with a difference – instead of charging too much money for one play you instead pay a fixed amount to enter and can play on any machine you like. No only is the entire arcade set to Free Play but the small warehouse is also crammed full of retro gaming goodness that no self-respecting gamer could pass up. Be sure to read the article and if you’re ever in London with not much to do, you should definitely head over to North Acton and check it out.
With Ben we also planned to visit our favourite gaming bar Meltdown for a Heartstone meetup, unfortunately we couldn’t all make it and had to cancel. All is not lost because the next get together for the group is Saturday 13 September and so far we’re on track to attend, Phil has been busy building his decks and strategy to try and win at least once. The Heart of Gaming: London’s best arcade
Lastly September brings us one of the biggest gaming expos in Europe with EGX London 2014 where you’ll find most of the team during 25-28 September at Earl’s Court, London. Kim and Phil will also be volunteering for the awesome SpecialEffect and will be helping out on their stand during the Saturday.
