The past month has been one of change for the 1001-Up.com team, and good things are on the horizon! We’ve been busy little bees over the last few weeks; read below to find out what we’ve been up to and about some exciting changes we’ve made to the site recently.
We’ll start off as we normally do by saying a massive thank you to everyone out there that has ever heard of, looked at or followed our little site. We appreciate your support more than you know: we’ve now managed to hit views from 157 countries across the world and 852 subscribers, and we love every single one of you. We’d usually ask you to take a look at our Big-Up page to make sure we’ve you on there but you may have noticed that it’s undergoing some maintenance! Check back shortly and we promise it will be all new and shiny.
Ok, so now onto the changes we’ve been making here at 1001-Up.com…
And, for the final change we’ve made in the past month… drumroll please…
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the lovely Joel from Quotes from the Tabletop has joined us as a Contributor! We first met in Birmingham back in March, when Kim and Phil were attending the Rezzed expo and Tim and his friends were at Kitacon. After a game of Cards Against Humanity we found out that we all got on like a house on fire – and since then we’ve managed to rope Joel into participating in several podcasts and running Keep on them Borderlands for us! Stay turned for an interview with the man himself, along with his first post in the coming week; and if you want to find out more about Joel, take a look at our What’s-Up page.
Other exciting things happened this month too: we finally got to meet the amazing Kevin in person, when he left Canada and flew over to the UK for a week in July for a holiday. As well as getting in some touristy-type-stuff around London, we made sure he got gaming time and took him to Meltdown for a few rounds of Street Fighter (and by the way, he kicked our arses). Later in the month Kim and Phil had the pleasure of spending the weekend with Tim; take a look at our new Instagram account to see what happened when we battled with the slot machines in arcades on the south-east coast – and managed to win a unicorn and a girlfriend (long story).
Since our first podcast back in May, we’ve now got a few under our belts and getting more confident about the format. The latest published is on the subject of easter eggs in video games (also known as ‘the Magnum episode’), and we recorded our most recent last weekend – this one will be titled ‘the big dirty secrets episode’ so keep your eyes open! We’re always up for guests participating in our discussions so if you’d like to join in, take a look at our Hook-Up page and get in touch.
The end of next month sees the start of this year’s Eurogamer expo at Earl’s Court in London, and of course the 1001-Up.com team will be there. If you’re going along too, let us know in the comments below and we’ll see you there for a beer; our attendance is confirmed from Thursday, 25 to Saturday, 27 September 2014, and we’re still figuring out what we’re doing on the Sunday! Kim will be volunteering for the awesome SpecialEffect on the Saturday, so make sure you take a look at their stand and say hi.
There’s plenty more to look forward to over the coming month, including a Hearthstone meet-up at Meltdown in London next weekend; take a look at Ben’s preview later this week if you’d like some more details on the event. No doubt there’ll be some more changes to the site coming up so we’ll bring you a round-up of these at the start of September!
Stay tuned for more new and shiny goodness – from Kim, Phil, Ben, Kevin, Jay, Tim and Joel from 1001-Up.com ☆
