Summer is on its way people, but that’s no reason not to get your game on every once in a while! The 1001-Up.com team have been busy over the past month playing video games, podcasting, and eating plenty of ice-cream.
We’ll start as we usually do by saying a massive thank you to everyone out there that has ever heard of, looked at or followed our site. We appreciate your support more than you could ever realise: we’ve now managed to hit views from 154 countries across the world and 819 subscribers, and we love every single one of you out there. Take a look at our dedicated Big-Up page and make sure we’ve mentioned you on there; if we haven’t, let us know so we can put that right as soon as possible.
After months of talking about it, we finally got our arses in gear and published our first podcast recently. The subject this time was in connection with indie game development and what it means to be indie nowadays. We all had a lot to say for ourselves on such an interesting subject and could have easily gone on for longer than the set thirty minutes, but we tried to keep it brief! It’s worth noting here that Tim was eating a mint-flavoured Cornetto during recording; if Unilever would like to send us any free samples, they would be gratefully received.
We apologise for the poor sound quality in places and promise to rectify this in our next issue – which is due to be recorded this weekend! Following on from our series of articles on the team’s gaming guilty pleasures we’ll be talking further about this subject and may even have a special guest joining us. If you have any suggestions for future topics or would like to join us as a guest yourself, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or leave us a comment below – everyone is welcome. Thank you for listening, and be sure to follow us on YouTube to receive our future podcasts!
There are a couple of other projects we have underway at the moment, including Kevin’s current series on annoying game mechanics. Following on from her series on the brony fandom last November Kim will shortly be delving into the world of anime, an area on which she has no existing experience; and Tim is bravely leading the team in organising a top secret project… we can neither confirm nor deny whether this has anything to do with Hearthstone. But it possibly might.

Hearthstone: the team’s current obsession.
Last month Phil decided to take a little time off from 1001-Up.com, and how we’ve missed him! He’s now rested and got his mojo back so we’re pleased to announce that you’ll soon see his articles on the site again. He’s thinking of publishing a review for his comeback article so stay tuned to find out which game he’s been focusing his attention on recently…
We’ve attended the Eurogamer expo (now EGX London) for the past couple of years and 2014 will be no exception with the team having received their passes already. If you’re going to be at Earl’s Court between 25 and 28 September 2014 for the event, let us know in the comments below and we can meet up for a beer or two! You’ll also get the opportunity to meet Kevin who’s traveling all the way from Canada just to be here for it. Be sure to check out the stand for the amazing SpecialEffect while you’re there, and why not stop by and say hi to Kim who will be volunteering for the charity at the expo on the Saturday.

We’ll be back at this year’s EGX London in September.
Stay with us because there’s plenty more to look forward to! And if you’d like to get involved with the 1001-Up.com team, check out our dedicated page for details. We can’t promise we’ll always be mature – our conversations frequently focus on ice-cream, love-triangles and furry animals (sometimes all at once) – but we definitely have fun.
Scream if you want to go faster – from Kim, Phil, Ben, Kevin, Jay and Tim from 1001-Up.com ☆
