We hope you guys are enjoying the lovely spring weather and didn’t get too carried away eating chocolate at Easter! Summer is almost here but the sunshine is not an excuse to stay inside and play some video games every now and again.
We’ll start as we usually do by saying a massive thank you to everyone out there that has ever heard of, looked at or followed our site. We appreciate your support more than you could ever realise: we’ve now managed to hit views from 148 countries across the world and 794 subscribers, and we love every single one of you out there. Take a look at our dedicated Big-Up page and make sure we’ve mentioned you on there; if we haven’t, let us know so we can put that right as soon as possible.
It may not seem as if much as been going on outwardly with the 1001-Up.com team, but trust us – we’ve been frantically beavering away behind the scenes! After doing us the honour of agreeing to become a Writer last month, the amazing Tim has been publishing a weekly post in his ‘video game development on a budget’ series and has managed to teach the rest of us a thing or two. Taking inspiration from this, Kevin has also created his own bi-weekly series on annoying game mechanics, so make sure you check both of them out.

Tim has been showing us a thing or two since we met him at the Rezzed expo in March.
This leads us to our next announcement… drumroll please… we’re extremely honoured to reveal that Jay from Nostalgia and Gaming has agreed to become a Writer for 1001-Up.com also! He likes to collect older games from his childhood and finding out about titles from times gone by, so expect lots of great retro pieces from him as well as some posts on some more unusual releases. It’s great to have Jay on board so please make him feel welcome!
Since going to the Rezzed expo in March and Kim receiving Cards Against Humanity for her birthday in April, the team have become hooked on the game. So to welcome our two new Writers to the team, Kim and Phil recently joined Jay and Tim for an online match recently and we spent the afternoon doing nothing but laughing. The game was streamed live on Twitch but in case you missed it, take a look at the video here and check out the screenshot below. We think it’s safe to say that the new members of the team are just as sick and twisted as the old.

Yep, we’re all sick and twisted.
Following on from a great idea from Ben last month, the team participated in a series on their favourite boss battles throughout April. We’ve discussed Mr Freeze, the Asylum Demon, Seymour Flux and the Helmasaur King – and we’d like to thank our readers for such an awesome reception! We’ve decided to continue this idea going forward so next up we’ll be writing on our sordid guilty pleasures… video game guilty pleasures, that is (filthy minds, the lot of you!). First will be Ben with his dirty little secret tomorrow so make sure you join us for that.
We’ve attended the Eurogamer expo (now EGX London) for the past couple of years and 2014 will be no exception with the team having received their passes recently. If you’re going to be at Earl’s Court between 25 and 28 September 2014 for the event, let us know in the comments below and we can meet up for a beer or two! Be sure to check out the stand for the amazing SpecialEffect while you’re there, and why not stop by and say hi to Kim who will be volunteering for the charity at the expo on the Saturday.

We’ll be back at this year’s EGX London in September.
Stay tuned because there’s plenty more to look forward to: we’ve got a few ideas in the pipeline and will reveal more when the time is right! Something we can tell you about is our first podcast, which is due to be taking place in the middle of May on the subject of indie developers and what ‘indie’ is considered to be nowadays. If you’ve got any thoughts on this topic, please do let us know in the comments below.
Keep on rocking – from Kim, Phil, Ben, Kevin, Jay and Tim from 1001-Up.com ☆
