Last month was our first birthday as 1001-Up.com, and we introduced new team members Ben and Kevin who have been busy churning out articles for the last month. With our big announcement out of the way, what else have we been up to and what’s still to come?

February has been an important month for us just like it was a year ago when 1001-Up.com was born. Not only have we extended the team but we’ve also successfully completed our first charity event – GameBlast – which saw us gaming non-stop for twenty-four hours. The marathon has so far generated £535.60 for the amazing SpecialEffect, an organisation devoted to helping those with disabilities enjoy video games. If you missed the stream as well as our typically cheesy videos then check out the round-up article for a summary.
Our new team members have been extremely busy writing some impressive new content ranging from five trends the gaming industry should leave behind to the evils of Early Access, and of course a review for the charming Tearaway. We’re already seeing some fantastic articles from Ben and Kevin that we’re proud to host here at 1001-Up.com so be sure to take a look if you haven’t already, and leave a comment.

Sorry Ben, we had to use the photo again!
Looking forward, we intend to continue raising money as team Gamely Giving with some additional events including a cake competition and gaming tournament at Kim and Phil‘s workplace. We’re also planning to take part in a 10 kilometer run with SpecialEffect later this year. We’ll be sure to record what we can from these events to bring you even more cheesier videos (if that’s possible) that we know you’ll enjoy watching as much as we enjoy making.
Outside of charity work, the team will be heading off to Birmingham at the end of March for Rezzed 2014, a UK event dedicated to PC, indie and console gaming. Last year we had the pleasure of meeting the guys from Red Thread Games, our heroes and creators of The Longest Journey. This time we hope to get to know them a bit better and we may even get the opportunity to host an interview after their developer session on Dreamfall Chapters, and talk about their latest project Draugen.

We got the chance to chat with Red Thread Games last year, what a lovely bunch.
Not only will Rezzed 2014 bring us a healthy dose of gaming goodness but we’ll also have the opportunity to finally meet the team at GeekOut South-West, to sit down and discuss all things cosplay. We haven’t had much exposure to this side of the industry just yet so we’re really looking forward to learning more! One final shout-out goes to the dedicated John Heatz of Gamers Sphere for all the up-to-date daily news and editorials from his experienced team of writers.
One final note is that Kim will be taking a short break from writing while she works on some real-life boring stuff (it’s single-player only, no co-op unfortunately). Please head over to her post on the subject to show her some support but trust us, she’ll be back in no time once the grammar starts to deteriorate. Thank you to everyone for another great month and be sure to look out for us at Rezzed over the weekend of 27-30 March 2014.
Here’s to another month of gaming goodness – Craig, Kim, Phil, Ben and Kevin from 1001-Up.com ☆
