10 Months-Up

Christmas is almost upon us, and we’re sure many of you out there are already contemplating the game that’s going to keep you going through the holiday season – along with those you’re going to buy in the upcoming Steam sale (damn you Valve!). Before we get too festive, here’s our round-up of the previous month.

We’ll start off as usual by saying a massive thank you to everyone out there who has ever heard of, looked at or followed our little site. We appreciate your support so much: we’ve now managed to hit views from 129 countries across the world and 411 followers – that’s almost a hundred more than last month! Take a look at our dedicated Big-Up page and make sure we’ve mentioned you on there; if we haven’t, please let us know so we can put that right as soon as possible.

We’d especially like to thank several fellow bloggers: Kevin from The Mental Attic, Lunaliah, The Dad, Gentleman Geek and An Aging Gamer. They’ve all been kind enough to put us forward for the Sunshine Award this past month and it’s an absolute honour to receive nominations from these talented people. We hoped to have done them proud with our facts which form part of the rules of the award – and that Craig’s hatred for the villagers from Animal Crossing, Kim’s vinegar addiction and Phil’s obsession with Tomb Raider 2 haven’t weirded them too much!

Following on from Phil’s series of articles on MOBA games back in August, last month saw the culmination of Kim’s attempt at covering on the brony fandom. It was a great experience to discover the community for ourselves, outside of what the media reports or what’s mentioned on forums across the internet and it’s true that you shouldn’t believe everything you read. While we can’t say that we’d now consider ourselves as bronies, if we were to take away only one thing from this project it would be this: that the world would be a nicer and friendlier place if there was a little bit of brony inside of all of us.

Craig is up next and he’s currently toying with a couple of ideas, but it’ll definitely be one that takes us into unfamiliar territory: something that encourages us to discover an area of gaming or fandoms where we’ve never been before. If you’ve got any feedback or if you’d like to see more of these ‘in-depth’ series – or if you’ve got a suggestion for a subject we should cover – please let us know in the comments below so we can make sure we’re heading in the right direction.

The contributions have been coming in thick and fast over the past few weeks and we’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing writers: Emil Larsen from Why Would You Buy?; The Dad, Gentleman Geek from his self-titled blog; Kevin from The Mental Attic; and DK Valene from her self-titled blog. We’ve also managed to score some fantastic previews, a few of our favourites being an interview with Chris Bischoff about isometric science-fiction-adventure Stasis and another with Ant Carpendale about his documentary on horror video games Playing With Fear, along with a first-look at the breathtaking NaissanceE by Limasse Five. If you’re interested in working with us or have a game that would make a great preview, please drop us an email!

This weekend is going to be a busy but enjoyable one for us as we’re due to be playing Left 4 Dead with the lovely Kevin and John Heatz tomorrow afternoon (or early morning in their respective countries!), before meeting up with The Dad, Gentleman Geek for a beer and a round of Diablo III in the evening. You may remember that in our round-ups for previous months we mentioned the possibility of participating in a charity event; well now the arrangements are underway so we’ve a lot to talk about over the next couple of days and will be able to reveal more shortly.

The Dad, Gentlemen Geek will hopefully bring out his Death Ray tomorrow night.

Please stick with us because there’s still plenty more to come! We have something special up our sleeves for Christmas, and we’ve already scored our tickets to next year’s Rezzed expo in March so preparations for that will start in the new year. Plus there’ll be the shame of revealing what we’ve added to our Steam libraries in the sales but probably won’t ever get around to playing…

Go on, have another mince pie – from Craig, Kim and Phil at 1001-Up.com
